“Alma del core,” in its sunny major key, is the companion piece to “Sebben crudele” from the same opera: La constanza in amor vince l’inganno (Faithfulness in love defeats treachery), composed in 1710 and revised in 1716 by Antonio Caldara (1670 – 1736).

In the opera, “Alma del core” is presented as a sequential (“taking turns”) duet between two lovers. [Interested in knowing who the two characters are? Click Here!] Only the first verse is presented in the 28 Italian Songs and Arias. This Italian aria also appears in the earlier 24 Italian Songs and Arias.
